Levy Distribution

With harvest just around the corner, it was a relief to receive confirmation from the Levies Revenue Service (LRS) that the levy exemption for nuts used in the production of oil and other products that are not for human consumption came into effect on 12 February 2010. This result is the culmination of more than two years of work by the AMS in response to a request from members at the 2007 AGM.

This follows on from the implementation of the change in the split of the levy to allow additional funds for market research and new market development. Of the total 25.21 cents per kg kernel, 16.01 is now allocated to marketing and promotion, 8.57 cents to research and development (subsequently matched dollar for dollar by the Commonwealth Government) and 0.63 cents to the National Residue Survey (NRS) for residue testing.

Update on the Levy Changes:

  • The Levy exemption applies to nuts used in the production of oil and other products that are not for human consumption
  • General exemption on unsound kernel: Currently there is no exemption on unsound kernel. Unsound or reject kernel within a consignment sent for processing is still subject to the levy.
